Chapter 7 - The Cave In

Julian stood ominously illuminated by a single, flickering emergency light, holding a small electronic detonator in his gloved hand.
He casually explained that the entire length of the escape tunnel was thoroughly wired with military-grade C4 explosives.
He had anticipated Ramon’s predictable escape route perfectly, playing him like a grandmaster on a chessboard.
Ramon instinctively pushed Clara and Mia firmly behind his broad shoulders to shield them from the impending blast.
Julian arrogantly demanded that they hand over the little girl immediately, promising to let the rest of them walk away unharmed.
Ramon flatly refused, slowly raising his weapon to aim directly at the center of Julian's pristine white chest.
Julian just laughed, a cruel, soulless sound that echoed off the damp walls, and firmly pressed the button on his detonator.
A massive, deafening explosion instantly ripped through the concrete ceiling of the tunnel directly behind them.
Tons of concrete, earth, and twisted metal collapsed, entirely blocking their only path back to the safehouse.
They were now completely trapped deep underground with no apparent way out to the surface.
Thick, choking dust and debris filled the suffocating air, making it nearly impossible to draw a full breath.
Julian casually snapped his fingers, and four of his massive, heavily armed mercenaries stepped out from the shadows behind him.
The men lunged forward with ruthless aggression to grab the screaming child from her mother's desperate arms.
Ramon and Diego dropped their empty guns and engaged in a brutal, desperate hand-to-hand fight with the towering attackers.
Ramon flawlessly dodged a heavy punch, grabbed a mercenary by the throat, and slammed his skull against the rocky wall.
He spun around quickly to finish off the remaining guards and finally get his bare hands on Julian.
But the chaotic, bloody fight had cost him a few precious, unforgiving seconds.
Julian was now holding a jagged combat knife directly against little Mia's delicate, pulsing throat.
"Drop the weapon right now, or she bleeds out right here on the dirt," Julian whispered with deadly, absolute calm.
The little girl cried out for her mother, her tiny hands trembling with unimaginable fear.
May you like
Ramon felt his heart hammer violently against his ribs, knowing any sudden movement would result in a fatal cut.
He stared deeply into Julian's dead eyes, searching for any trace of mercy, but found absolutely nothing but pure evil.
