Chapter 3 - The Secret Inside

Julian stood completely unfazed by the raging flames and twisting metal directly behind him.

He adjusted the expensive cuffs of his immaculate white suit as if he were attending a simple, everyday business meeting.

Ramon gripped the leather steering wheel until his knuckles turned completely white with sheer, unadulterated rage.

He knew that trying to shoot it out with Julian’s private army in a prepared ambush was an absolute death sentence.

Without a single second of hesitation, Ramon forcefully shifted the heavy SUV into reverse.

He slammed the accelerator to the floor, sending the massive vehicle hurtling backward down the winding, treacherous mountain road.

Julian simply raised his gloved hand, silently signaling his hidden snipers in the trees to open fire.

A terrifying barrage of high-caliber armor-piercing rounds rained down upon the retreating vehicle.

The deadly bullets sparked and shattered against the reinforced glass, but the heavy armor miraculously managed to hold.

Ramon violently spun the steering wheel, executing a flawless, high-speed J-turn that sent them speeding away forward down the highway.

They drove in tense, breathless silence for twenty miles before Ramon finally felt confident they had lost their pursuers.

He pulled the battered, smoking SUV into an abandoned, overgrown gas station hidden deep in the rural woods.

In the backseat, the injured mother finally groaned, coughing weakly as she opened her exhausted eyes.

She looked at Ramon, her delicate expression a complicated mixture of profound gratitude and absolute, undeniable terror.

She whispered with a raspy, painful voice that her real name was Clara.

Clara revealed that she was once a brilliant, highly paid forensic accountant for Julian’s global criminal syndicate.

She had spent the last three years quietly copying a master digital ledger that contained the offshore bank accounts of every corrupt politician on Julian’s payroll.

Julian had eventually discovered her massive betrayal and ordered his men to brutally torture her in the woods as an example to others.

Ramon turned around in his seat, his dark, calculating eyes narrowing in deep suspicion.

"If he already took the ledger back, you are of absolutely no use to him anymore," Ramon stated flatly.

Clara slowly shook her head, pulling her little girl tightly against her chest as fresh tears fell.

"He does not have the ledger," Clara corrected him, her voice trembling with a terrifying, heavy truth.

Ramon furrowed his brow and asked where she could have possibly hidden something so incredibly valuable to a cartel boss.

Clara reached down and gently touched a small, fresh surgical scar on her daughter’s thin forearm.

"I paid a corrupt underground surgeon to implant the microdrive directly under Mia's skin."
