Chapter 6 - Blood and Betrayal

The heavy, oppressive silence in the room was far more terrifying than the sounds of gunfire erupting above them.

Only three people in the entire world had the high-level security clearance to alter that master code.

Ramon looked intently at Victor, Diego, and Matteo, his sharp mind racing to calculate the devastating betrayal.

Before Ramon could utter a single word of accusation, Matteo slowly drew his customized service weapon.

He aimed the dark barrel directly at Clara's trembling, tear-streaked head with a steady hand.

Matteo swallowed hard, visibly sweating, admitting that Julian had secretly offered him ten million dollars and a brand new life.

Ramon tried to speak reason into his oldest and most trusted friend, keeping his voice entirely calm.

He passionately reminded Matteo of the brutal decades they had fought side by side to build their criminal empire from nothing.

Matteo’s hand shook violently, clearly torn between a lifetime of brotherhood and the alluring promise of unimaginable wealth.

Suddenly, little Mia picked up a heavy metal gear from a nearby gunsmithing workbench.

She threw it as hard as she possibly could, striking Matteo directly on his kneecap.

The sudden, sharp pain caused Matteo to flinch and lower his gun for a fraction of a critical second.

That brief moment of hesitation was all the time Ramon needed to act.

Ramon drew his weapon with lightning speed and fired a single, precise shot into Matteo's right shoulder.

Matteo cried out in horrible pain and dropped to the concrete floor, incapacitated but thankfully still alive.

Diego immediately rushed forward and frantically hotwired the complex keypad panel to bypass the security lockout.

Bright sparks flew into the air, and the heavy steel door finally ground open, revealing the dark, musty tunnel ahead.

They rushed desperately into the damp, narrow passageway, leaving the deafening sound of breaching charges exploding far behind them.

As they hurried blindly through the absolute darkness, Clara let out a sudden, blood-curdling scream.

She pointed a trembling, pale finger toward the shadows at the very end of the long corridor.

Julian was already standing inside the tunnel, calmly waiting for them with a twisted smile on his face.

He looked completely relaxed, as if he were enjoying a casual evening stroll.

The terrifying reality was that Julian had manipulated every single move they made since the forest.
