Chapter 5 - The Traitor Within

Every major law enforcement agency in the nation was now aggressively hunting Ramon Ortega with shoot-to-kill orders.

Within minutes, chaotic reports flooded in that his legitimate corporate offices were being raided by heavily armed federal agents.

His offshore bank accounts, extensive stock portfolios, and vast real estate assets were instantly frozen by international authorities.

Ramon realized Julian’s true, terrifying genius was not just trying to kill him, but attempting to completely erase his hard-earned power.

Victor stepped into the dimly lit room, his face grim, sweating, and unusually pale for a veteran enforcer.

Victor nervously suggested the unthinkable idea of handing the woman and the child over to Julian to clear their names.

Ramon walked slowly over to his second-in-command and stared him down with terrifying, murderous intensity.

He flatly refused the cowardly suggestion, stating firmly that he would never trade an innocent child to save his own skin.

Suddenly, the bright fluorescent lights of the underground safehouse flickered violently and died entirely.

The heavy steel blast doors automatically sealed shut with a deafening, terrifying metallic thud that echoed through the halls.

The emergency backup generators completely failed to engage, leaving the men in absolute, suffocating darkness.

Diego burst into the room holding a bright tactical flashlight that cut through the black pitch.

He yelled frantically that the outer perimeter had been entirely breached without a single alarm ever sounding.

Dozens of heavily armed, elite mercenaries were currently swarming the compound right above their heads.

Ramon knew instantly that they had to abandon the compromised facility before they were entirely surrounded.

He grabbed Clara and Mia, leading them quickly toward a secret escape tunnel hidden behind a false wall in the armory.

He rapidly typed his complex master access code into the digital keypad to unlock the heavy steel blast door.

The electronic keypad flashed an angry red color and emitted a harsh, loud denial beep.

Ramon tried to punch in the code a second time, but the system remained firmly and stubbornly locked.

He slowly turned around to face his men in the dim, shaky beam of the tactical flashlight.

Someone inside this very room had secretly changed the master security code.

He felt a bitter taste of betrayal rise up in the back of his throat.

He had treated these men like his own brothers for over a decade.

Now, one of them was preparing to sell him out for thirty pieces of silver.

The sounds of heavy boots stomping on the concrete floor above them grew louder and closer.
