Chapter 6 - The Golden Cage

I backed away from the heavy wooden door, pressing my hands over my mouth to muffle my terrified gasp.

The billionaire stranger had not rescued us from the hitmen at all.

He had orchestrated the entire attack just to kidnap Noah for his healthy organs.

I sprinted silently back to the velvet sofa and pulled the thick blanket over my trembling body.

I knew I had to find a way to escape this massive fortress before the sun came up.

The next morning, Alexander walked into the living room with a bright, charming smile.

He asked me how I slept and offered to show me the massive indoor swimming pool.

I forced myself to smile back, pretending I had not heard his horrific phone call.

I asked him if I could finally see my mother.

Alexander sighed heavily and put his hands inside his expensive pockets.

He told me that my mother had contracted a severe illness from the chemical supplies at her cleaning job.

He claimed she was currently in a medically induced coma in the private medical wing.

He promised that his world-class doctors were doing everything they could to save her life.

I knew he was lying right to my face, but I simply nodded and thanked him for his generosity.

Later that afternoon, a tall, imposing doctor in a white coat walked into the room.

He looked at Noah and told Alexander it was time for the boy's preliminary blood tests.

I instinctively squeezed Noah so tight that he began to cry.

Alexander gently placed his hand on my shoulder, assuring me it was just a standard physical exam.

The doctor aggressively pulled Noah out of my arms and carried him away down the dark hallway.

I waited exactly ten minutes before sneaking out of the living room to follow them.

I crept through the massive house until I found the entrance to the medical wing.

I pushed the metal door open and stepped into a room filled with glowing computer screens.

The walls were completely covered in surveillance photographs of my family.

There were pictures of my mother working, pictures of me at school, and pictures of Noah sleeping in his crib.

They had been watching every single move we made since the very day Noah was born.
