Chapter 4 - The Escape

The deafening sound of heavy boots stomping onto our wooden porch shattered the silence.

Alexander violently kicked our heavy oak kitchen table, flipping it over to create a wooden barricade.

He shoved my mother and me down onto the cold linoleum floor right behind it.

A massive hail of bullets instantly ripped through the front windows of our tiny house.

Glass shattered everywhere, raining down on us like sharp, deadly snow.

Noah screamed in pure terror as the deafening gunfire echoed through the small rooms.

Alexander leaned over the wooden table and fired three precise shots toward the front door.

I heard a heavy body collapse against the porch railing outside.

My mother tightly covered Noah's ears, tears of absolute panic streaming down her dirty face.

Alexander grabbed my mother's arm and pulled her forcefully toward the back door.

He told us we had exactly ten seconds to escape before they breached the rear windows.

We sprinted blindly out the back door and plunged into the freezing, dark woods behind our house.

I tripped over a massive tree root, heavily scraping my knees against the frozen dirt.

Alexander seamlessly scooped me up with one arm and carried me while holding his gun in the other.

We ran for nearly a mile through the dense, thorny bushes until we reached a hidden access road.

A sleek, black armored helicopter was idling quietly in a small clearing.

The pilot immediately opened the heavy side door as we approached.

We scrambled desperately into the luxurious leather seats just as flashlights appeared in the treeline behind us.

The helicopter violently lifted off the ground, leaving the armed hitmen stranded in the mud below.

I finally caught my breath and looked out the window at my small, miserable hometown fading into the darkness.

Alexander poured a glass of warm water from a small console and handed it to my mother.

He promised her that we were flying to an impenetrable safe house where her father could never reach us.

My mother drank the water with shaking hands, finally letting her guard down.

Ten minutes later, her eyes rolled back into her head, and she collapsed completely unconscious onto the floor.

Alexander calmly picked up a small empty vial from the console and smiled.

He looked at the pilot and ordered him to prepare the surgical team for the baby.
