Chapter 5 - The Safe House

I watched in absolute horror as my mother lay completely lifeless on the floor of the helicopter.

I screamed and violently hit Alexander in the chest, demanding to know what he had done to her.

Alexander easily caught my small wrists and held them gently but firmly.

He promised me that she was simply sedated for her own protection so she would not panic.

I did not believe a single word coming out of his manipulative mouth.

I pulled Noah closer to me, determined to protect my baby brother from this monster.

The helicopter eventually landed on the roof of a massive, heavily fortified mansion hidden deep in the mountains.

Armed guards instantly surrounded the aircraft and carried my unconscious mother inside.

Alexander escorted me down a grand, sweeping staircase into a luxurious living room.

The house was incredibly warm, smelling of expensive wood polish and fresh flowers.

A maid immediately brought me a tray of hot chocolate and warm, thick blankets.

Alexander told me to rest because the next few days were going to be very difficult.

He walked away down a long, dark hallway, leaving me alone with two silent security guards.

I pretended to fall asleep on the velvet sofa, waiting for the guards to look away.

When they stepped outside to smoke, I quietly crept down the hallway to find my mother.

I pressed my ear against a heavy mahogany door when I heard Alexander talking on a phone inside.

His voice was cold, calculating, and completely devoid of the warmth he had shown me earlier.

He told the person on the other end of the line that the retrieval was a total success.

He confirmed that Victoria was heavily sedated and secured in the basement holding cell.

Then he said the words that made my blood run completely cold.

He told the caller that the baby boy was healthy and perfectly ready for the organ harvesting procedure tomorrow.
