Chapter 6 - The Poison Protocol

Madison immediately dropped the silver pistol, letting it clatter loudly onto the cold concrete floor.
She instantly raised her hands in the air and forced a terrified, sobbing expression onto her face.
"Please help me, Evelyn, he was going to kill me!" Madison cried out, playing the innocent victim flawlessly.
She collapsed to her knees, desperately hoping her theatrical performance would save her from prison.
I walked slowly into the blinding spotlight, flanked by a dozen heavily armed police officers.
I did not look at Madison with anger, but rather with the cold curiosity of a scientist observing a rat.
"You are a very talented actress, Madison, but you are a terrible corporate spy," I stated firmly.
I pulled out my smartphone and tapped the glowing screen to play a crystal-clear audio recording.
Madison's own voice echoed through the garage, loudly confessing to the rival syndicate conspiracy.
I had secretly placed microscopic listening devices in Everett's private office over a year ago.
"Arrest her for grand corporate espionage and attempted murder," I instructed the police captain calmly.
The officers rushed forward, aggressively slamming Madison against the concrete pillar to apply the heavy handcuffs.
She screamed furious curses at me as they forcefully dragged her away to a waiting squad car.
Everett remained on his knees, completely abandoned, broken, and utterly humiliated.
He slowly crawled toward my expensive designer shoes, his tears mixing with the dirt on his face.
"Evelyn, please forgive me, I was completely brainwashed by that evil woman," he sobbed desperately.
He begged me to remember the happy early years of our marriage before the wealth corrupted him.
I looked down at the pathetic creature I had once mistakenly called my husband.
"You made your choice the moment you threw your wedding ring at my feet," I replied coldly.
I smoothly kicked my foot out, pushing him forcefully away from my pristine shoes.
Everett collapsed onto his back, staring up at the dark concrete ceiling with entirely empty eyes.
He slowly realized that I was never going to offer him a single drop of mercy.
A dark, incredibly twisted smile slowly spread across his bruised and tear-stained face.
"If I cannot have this magnificent empire, then nobody will," Everett whispered with chilling absolute certainty.
He quickly rolled up the sleeve of his ruined tuxedo, revealing a sleek, customized smartwatch on his wrist.
He violently tapped a hidden sequence of buttons on the digital screen before anyone could stop him.
The watch beeped loudly with a terrifying, high-pitched mechanical confirmation sound.

I immediately recognized the dangerous sequence he had just entered into the device.
"He just activated the Genesis Poison Pill protocol!" Grant shouted in sudden, absolute panic.
