Chapter 4 - The Empty Escape

The entire ballroom erupted into absolute chaos as the undercover FBI agents pulled Patricia to her feet.
She kicked and screamed wildly, completely abandoning her wealthy, sophisticated persona.
"Everett, do not let them take me away to a filthy prison!" Patricia shrieked desperately.
Everett watched in sheer terror as his mother was forcefully dragged out the front doors in heavy iron cuffs.
He realized that if the federal agents were investigating the charity, they were definitely coming for him next.
He violently grabbed Madison by the wrist and yanked her forcefully toward the side exit.
"We have to leave the country right now!" Everett yelled, dragging his terrified mistress behind him.
I stood calmly near the center of the room, sipping a fresh glass of champagne.
I did not order my security team to stop them from fleeing the ballroom.
I simply watched them run, knowing exactly what was waiting for them in the underground parking garage.
Everett forcefully pushed open the heavy emergency doors and sprinted down the concrete stairs.
He reached into his pocket and desperately clicked the key fob to his customized Bugatti.
He expected to hear the powerful, roaring engine of his three million dollar supercar.
Instead, he was greeted by the absolute, deafening silence of a completely empty parking space.
There were thick, black tire marks on the concrete where the repo trucks had violently dragged his cars away.
"Where is the car, Everett?" Madison screamed, her high heels echoing loudly in the damp garage.
"She actually took everything," Everett whispered, his voice trembling with genuine, unfiltered fear.
He frantically looked around the dimly lit garage for any possible means of escape.
He suddenly remembered the secret emergency safe he had installed behind a concrete pillar three years ago.
"It is okay, Madison, I have two million dollars in untraceable bearer bonds hidden right here," he promised quickly.
He rushed over to the dusty pillar and aggressively ripped away a fake electrical panel.
He quickly punched his six-digit emergency code into the hidden steel keypad.
The heavy safe door clicked softly and swung open on its well-oiled hinges.
Everett reached inside eagerly, expecting to feel the thick, heavy stacks of valuable paper.
His hands grasped absolutely nothing but cold, empty metal.
He pulled his cell phone out and used the flashlight to illuminate the dark interior of the safe.
The bearer bonds were completely missing, replaced by a single, cheap plastic flip phone.
The burner phone was sitting exactly in the center of the safe, its screen glowing ominously in the dark.
Before Everett could even process the missing money, the burner phone began to ring loudly.

Everett hesitated for a fraction of a second before slowly pressing the device to his ear.
"If you want to survive the night, you will do exactly as I say," a chilling, mechanized voice whispered.
