Chapter 2 - The Forged Empire

The entire ballroom erupted into chaotic gasps at Madison's shocking declaration.
She proudly held the crisp legal document high in the air for all the wealthy investors to see.
Everett quickly recovered from his initial shock and wrapped his arm around her shoulder again.
"Did you honestly think I would leave my entire fortune vulnerable to a jealous wife?" Everett chuckled darkly.
He loudly explained that he had secretly restructured the holding company over the past six months.
Patricia clapped her hands together with absolute joy and pointed a bony finger at me.
"You are completely bankrupt, you miserable little gold-digger!" my mother-in-law shrieked happily.
I slowly reached out and calmly took the supposedly devastating legal document from Madison's hand.
I did not tremble, and I certainly did not shed a single tear of defeat.
I briefly scanned the official signatures and the glowing red notary stamp at the bottom of the page.
"This is a very impressive piece of fiction, Madison," I said, my voice cutting through the noise like a blade.
I held the paper up to the glowing crystal chandelier above us.
"However, you made one catastrophic, irreversible mistake when you forged this transfer," I explained loudly.
I turned my gaze toward the confused board members standing in the front row of the crowd.
"The shares of Blackstone Crest Holdings are strictly bound by a legacy bloodline clause," I revealed.
Everett frowned deeply, clearly having absolutely no idea what I was talking about.
"My grandfather founded this entire empire fifty years ago, not you," I reminded my foolish husband.
I explained that the shares could never be legally transferred without my personal biometric authorization.
"That means this document is not just useless, it is a massive felony," I smiled sharply.
Madison's confident smirk instantly shattered into a mask of pure, unadulterated panic.
She looked desperately at Everett, silently begging him to fix the terrifying legal disaster.
Everett began to sweat profusely, his expensive suit suddenly feeling entirely too tight.
"You are lying to save face!" Everett yelled, trying to regain control of the narrative.
He frantically pulled his expensive cellular phone from his pocket.
"I am calling our largest private backer right now to have you permanently removed from the board," he threatened.
He dialed the private number of Alexander Sterling, the legendary billionaire investor who funded our expansion.
The crowd murmured in awe, knowing that Sterling held the ultimate power to sway the company.
Everett put the phone on speaker so everyone could hear his powerful connection.
The phone rang twice before a deep, familiar voice echoed from the entrance of the ballroom.
"You do not need to call me, Everett, because I am already here," the billionaire announced.
Alexander Sterling walked gracefully through the parted crowd, looking sharp in a tailored tuxedo.
Everett rushed forward to greet him, desperately holding out his hand for a handshake.
Sterling completely ignored Everett's outstretched hand and walked directly toward me instead.

The legendary billionaire stopped in front of me and respectfully kissed the back of my hand.
"It is an absolute honor to finally serve you in public, Evelyn," Alexander Sterling smiled warmly.
