Chapter 7 - The Security Breach

I stared at the small black flash drive in my palm as if it were a literal miracle.

Chloe had just handed me the absolute undeniable proof needed to destroy our father and clear my husband's name.

"Why are you doing this now?" I asked, my voice filled with heavy skepticism and exhaustion.

Chloe wiped a tear from her cheek and admitted that our father had threatened to disown her if she ever spoke the truth.

She finally realized that a man willing to murder his own grandchild would eventually destroy her too.

I thanked her sincerely, knowing she had risked her entire comfortable lifestyle to bring me this evidence.

Chloe quickly slipped out of the NICU, leaving me alone to figure out how to release the video to the world.

I needed to upload the footage to the internet immediately, but the hospital administration had completely disabled the public Wi-Fi.

I dragged my wheelchair over to the central nursing station and found a secure physician's computer terminal.

I plugged the USB drive into the port, praying that I could bypass the hospital's internal firewalls.

My heart pounded furiously as I navigated the complex network, finally managing to access a secure email server.

I attached the video file and sent it directly to every major news outlet and federal law enforcement agency in the country.

The progress bar slowly crawled across the screen, agonizingly taking minutes to upload the high-definition footage.

Just as the upload reached ninety-nine percent, the main power to the entire hospital suddenly flickered and died.

The computer screen went completely black, plunging the massive building into absolute, terrifying darkness.

Emergency red lights flickered on a few seconds later, casting long, sinister shadows across the quiet NICU.

My father had clearly realized the video was missing and cut the power grid to stop me from exposing his crimes.

The backup generators failed to engage, meaning he had intentionally sabotaged the hospital's failsafe systems.

The monitors attached to my daughter's incubator emitted a long, continuous, terrifying warning beep.

Her life-saving oxygen machine had completely stopped working.
