Chapter 4 - The Grandfather's Wrath

I screamed in absolute terror as the digital numbers on the monitor dropped dangerously close to zero.

I tried to stand up and perform CPR on my own daughter, but my ruined body completely betrayed me.

I collapsed onto the linoleum floor, weeping hysterically as the medical staff watched with tears in their own eyes.

The heavy double doors of the NICU suddenly burst open with an explosive, commanding force.

My grandfather arrived in his motorized wheelchair, flanked by a massive team of ruthless corporate lawyers.

His face was pale with fury, and his authoritative presence instantly silenced the chaotic room.

"I am the primary financial benefactor of this entire hospital wing," my grandfather roared at the medical staff.

He pulled a thick, notarized legal binder from his lap and slammed it onto the nearest nursing station.

"This document proves that the overriding family trust completely nullifies my son's fraudulent power of attorney."

"If any of you let my great-granddaughter die today, I will personally ensure you spend the rest of your lives in federal prison."

Dr. Evans did not hesitate for a single microsecond after receiving the legal clearance.

He shouted emergency medical orders, and the nurses instantly swarmed the incubator to administer life-saving medications.

I watched through blurry tears as they skillfully stabilized her tiny, struggling heart.

My grandfather rolled his wheelchair over to me and gently held my bloody hand.

"I am so incredibly sorry that I did not see the monster my son had become," he whispered emotionally.

He promised me that my father and my mother would be entirely destroyed for what they had done.

Evelyn and my father suddenly appeared in the hallway outside, banging furiously on the locked glass doors of the NICU.

My grandfather's private security team easily physically blocked them from entering the sterile unit.

The immediate crisis was finally averted, but Dr. Evans approached us with a devastatingly grim expression.

"The baby is stable for now, but she suffered massive internal bleeding from the placental abruption," the doctor explained.

"She desperately needs a highly specific, rare blood transfusion within the next hour to survive the night."

"The terrifying problem is that the hospital's entire supply of that specific blood type was mysteriously destroyed twenty minutes ago."

My grandfather cursed loudly, realizing my father had bribed someone to sabotage the blood bank to ensure the baby died.

The doctor looked at my medical chart and shook his head in defeat.

"You lost too much blood during the surgery to be a donor, and the only other potential matches are your immediate family members."
