Chapter 6 - The Hostile Standoff

I screamed as the officers violently ripped the intravenous needle out of Mark's arm.

Blood splattered across the sterile floor as they slammed my husband forcefully against the nearest wall.

Mark did not fight back, knowing that any resistance would give the corrupt cops an excuse to shoot him in front of us.

He looked at me with immense love and promised that everything was going to be okay.

They locked heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists and dragged him out of the unit like a dangerous criminal.

I was left completely devastated, trembling in my wheelchair while my grandfather yelled furiously at the police chief.

The chief simply smirked and handed my grandfather a thick stack of official legal documents.

"Your son just initiated a hostile corporate takeover of your entire empire while you were busy playing hero," the chief mocked.

My father had used his forged power of attorney to completely freeze my grandfather's bank accounts and massive financial assets.

We were entirely cut off from the wealth that was previously protecting us from their relentless cruelty.

The chief proudly announced that my grandfather's private security team was no longer legally allowed on the hospital premises.

The armed police officers forcefully escorted my grandfather and his helpless lawyers out of the building.

I was entirely alone in the quiet, terrifyingly vulnerable neonatal intensive care unit.

I sat vigil beside my daughter's incubator, praying that my body would heal fast enough to carry her away from this nightmare.

Hours passed in absolute silence, and the darkness of the night began to creep through the hospital windows.

The heavy double doors of the NICU suddenly clicked open, and my sister Chloe slipped quietly into the room.

She looked incredibly nervous, constantly glancing over her shoulder to make sure no one had followed her.

I braced myself for another cruel attack, fully expecting her to mock my desperate situation.

Instead, Chloe knelt beside my wheelchair and pulled a small, black USB flash drive from her designer purse.

"I know I have been a terrible sister, but I cannot let our father kill an innocent baby," she whispered tearfully.

She gently placed the flash drive into my trembling hands.

"This contains the raw, unedited security footage from the foyer cameras that proves he intentionally pushed you down those stairs."
