The Vance Estate was alive with laughter.

It was Leo’s third birthday, and the manicured lawns were covered in colorful balloons, games, and dozens of happy children. But these weren't the children of billionaires and socialites. They were children from the foster homes my foundation supported.

I watched as Leo, a fearless and bright little boy with striking emerald eyes, ran across the grass, chasing a golden retriever puppy.

Victoria stood beside me, sipping a glass of champagne. She looked younger and happier than she had in decades. The heavy burden of her past had finally been lifted.

“You’ve done an incredible job with the foundation, Maya,” Victoria said, putting an arm around my waist. “The board wants you to take over as CEO of the main corporation in five years.”

I smiled, leaning my head on my mother’s shoulder. “I think I can handle it. After all, I learned from the best.”

I looked out over the ocean, feeling the warm breeze against my face. The terrified, heartbroken girl who had stood in that courtroom with nothing was gone forever. In her place stood a Vance—a protector, a mother, and a titan in her own right.

I had lost a toxic husband, but I had gained the entire world. And this time, nobody would ever take it away from me.
