Chapter 6 - The Arrest Warrant

I sprinted back to my car, my hands shaking uncontrollably as I gripped the steering wheel.
I sped through the morning traffic, desperately weaving between cars to get home.
I called Marianne and told her to pack a single bag and get the kids ready to leave.
I pulled into my neighborhood just as two police cruisers turned onto my street with their lights flashing.
I swerved into my driveway, abandoning the car and sprinting through the front door.
I grabbed my wife and children, ushering them toward the back of the house.
We slipped out through the sliding glass door and quickly climbed over the wooden fence into our neighbor's yard.
We hid in the neighbor's detached, dusty garage while the police began pounding loudly on our front door.
Marianne held Lily and Ethan tightly, whispering that everything was going to be okay.
My heart hammered against my ribs as I heard the officers shouting my name.
My phone vibrated in my pocket with an encrypted text message from Evelyn.
She had found a massive legal loophole in the founding documents of the family trust.
Carol’s power could be completely stripped away without a lengthy court battle.
However, there was one impossible catch to Evelyn's plan.
To use the loophole, I needed to find my grandfather's original, handwritten will.

My father had told me years ago that the will was destroyed in a fire.
But Evelyn’s message included a forwarded email from my late grandfather, proving the document still existed.
