Chapter 8 - The Ultimate Betrayal

My heart pounded furiously against my ribs as Julian stepped completely into the flickering light.
Cynthia walked casually back to her brother's side, clearly proud of her successful deception.
I stared at the silver flash drive resting on the wooden crate, realizing it was completely worthless.
Julian picked up the drive, dropped it onto the concrete floor, and crushed it violently beneath the heel of his expensive shoe.
He laughed darkly, explaining that the files I had briefly previewed were just useless dummy documents.
I asked Cynthia why she would help a man who had completely destroyed her own inheritance.
Cynthia smirked and explained that Julian had promised her a ten million dollar payout once he fully liquidated my company.
Julian raised the suppressed handgun, keeping the deadly weapon aimed perfectly at my heart.
He stated that the police were already searching for me, believing I had fled the city to avoid prosecution.
Julian calmly outlined his final, terrifying plan for the evening.
He explained that he was going to force me to log into the main corporate banking portal right now.
He demanded that I manually authorize the final release of the frozen fifty million dollars to his offshore account.
Julian coldly added that once the money cleared, he would use the poison in his pocket to stage my tragic suicide.
He claimed the world would simply believe the guilt of my massive embezzlement had driven me to take my own life.
I looked at the cold, unblinking eyes of my husband, finally seeing the true monster hiding beneath his handsome face.
He threw a heavily encrypted tablet onto the crate and ordered me to enter my master password immediately.
I refused to move, staring fiercely into his eyes without showing a single ounce of fear.
Julian lost his temper entirely, stepping forward and pressing the cold barrel of the gun aggressively against my forehead.
He screamed at me to type the password, threatening to shoot me in the kneecap if I hesitated any longer.
I slowly reached my trembling hands forward and pulled the tablet toward my chest.
I looked at Cynthia, hoping to find a shred of human empathy in her shallow eyes, but found absolutely nothing.
I typed my complicated master password into the digital keyboard with deliberate, measured keystrokes.
Julian smiled in greedy anticipation as the loading screen appeared on the glowing device.
He eagerly leaned forward to watch the massive funds transfer permanently into his absolute control.
But the screen did not display a successful banking transaction.
Instead, a bright red warning flashed across the screen, displaying a ten-second countdown timer.
Julian stepped back in total confusion, asking me what I had just done to the system.

I smiled coldly and informed him that the password did not authorize a financial transfer.
I revealed that typing that specific password instantly triggered a silent GPS distress signal to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
