Chapter 7 - The Sister's Bargain

I sat in the passenger seat of Evelyn’s car, completely stunned by Cynthia’s unexpected phone call.

I asked Cynthia why she was suddenly willing to betray her own flesh and blood.

Cynthia laughed bitterly through the phone, her voice dripping with years of hidden resentment.

She explained that Beatrice and Arthur had recently cut her completely out of the family trust to fund Julian’s elaborate schemes.

She knew they would abandon her entirely the moment they secured my company's immense wealth.

Cynthia demanded the two million dollars be transferred to a secure cryptocurrency wallet before midnight.

She instructed me to meet her alone at an abandoned shipping warehouse on the industrial south side of the city.

Evelyn violently shook her head, whispering urgently that this was obviously a dangerous trap.

I covered the microphone and told Evelyn that this was the absolute only way to prove my innocence and save my business.

I agreed to Cynthia's terms, promising to wire the funds the moment the physical evidence was securely in my hands.

Cynthia warned me that if I brought the police or my private investigator, she would instantly destroy the hard drive.

She ended the call, leaving a tense silence hanging heavy in the cold car.

Evelyn begged me to let Marcus secure the warehouse first, but I refused to risk Cynthia destroying the vital evidence.

I borrowed Evelyn's vehicle and drove alone through the dark, rain-slicked streets of Chicago.

The towering silhouette of the abandoned warehouse loomed aggressively against the cloudy night sky.

I parked the car in the shadows and walked slowly into the cavernous, echoing building.

The air smelled strongly of rust and decaying wood.

Cynthia was standing perfectly still under a single flickering fluorescent light bulb in the center of the massive room.

She clutched a small silver flash drive tightly in her manicured hand.

I approached her cautiously, keeping my distance as I pulled out my banking tablet.

Cynthia threw the flash drive onto a wooden crate between us and demanded to see the transfer confirmation.

I quickly verified the files on the drive, seeing hundreds of emails proving the massive conspiracy and the affair.

I executed the cryptocurrency transfer, sending two million dollars permanently into her secret wallet.

Cynthia checked her phone, smiled with genuine satisfaction, and turned to walk away.

I breathed a massive sigh of relief, knowing I finally possessed the power to destroy the Sterling family completely.

But as I reached forward to grab the silver flash drive, a slow, menacing applause echoed from the dark corners of the warehouse.

Julian stepped smoothly out of the pitch-black shadows, holding a suppressed handgun pointed directly at my chest.

May you like

Cynthia stopped walking, turned around, and smiled wickedly at her older brother.

Julian praised his sister for her brilliant acting, revealing that the entire transaction was a coordinated setup to lure me here alone.
