Chapter 2 - The Forged Signature

I pulled my car aggressively onto the shoulder of the highway and slammed the transmission into park.

My heart hammered violently against my ribs as I processed the banker's impossible words.

I told the bank officer that Julian did not have authorization to access my corporate reserves.

The officer sounded genuinely confused on the other end of the line.

He explained that Julian had presented a fully notarized Power of Attorney document.

The document apparently granted my husband total control over my company's assets in the event of my absence.

I realized with absolute horror that Julian must have slipped the fraudulent paper into our marriage license documents.

I had blindly signed a stack of legal forms yesterday morning while surrounded by cheering bridesmaids.

I ordered the bank officer to freeze the wire transfer immediately.

He apologized nervously and stated that the transfer was already processing through an offshore clearing house.

I ended the call and instantly dialed my lead corporate attorney, Evelyn.

She answered on the first ring, sensing the panic radiating through the phone.

I quickly explained the physical assault at the breakfast table and the massive financial theft.

Evelyn ordered me to drive directly to her secure office building in the financial district.

I merged back onto the highway, constantly checking my rearview mirror for Julian's familiar black vehicle.

When I arrived at Evelyn's office, she already had a team of paralegals digging into the Sterling family's hidden financial records.

Evelyn handed me a glass of cold water and a printed copy of the forged Power of Attorney.

I stared down at my own perfect signature resting at the bottom of the catastrophic document.

Julian had planned this theft for months, using my love and trust as a weapon to steal my entire life's work.

Suddenly, my cell phone vibrated violently against the glass conference table.

The caller identification displayed Julian's name.

Evelyn nodded silently, signaling for me to answer the call and place it on speakerphone.

I accepted the call and said nothing, waiting for his voice to fill the quiet room.

Julian sounded breathless and completely unhinged on the other end of the line.

He demanded to know why his platinum credit card had just been violently declined at a luxury watch boutique.

I coldly informed him that his family's free ride was permanently over.

Julian let out a dark, menacing laugh that sent chills down my spine.

He confidently told me that freezing his personal allowance was a pathetic move.

He boasted that by tomorrow morning, he would be the majority shareholder of my entire company.

I told him that the authorities would easily prove the Power of Attorney was obtained through fraudulent deception.

Julian laughed again, his voice dripping with pure malice.

He stated that I would have a very hard time proving fraud from inside a psychiatric hospital.

My blood ran completely cold as I tried to comprehend his threat.

Julian calmly explained that Beatrice was currently filing an emergency medical petition with a corrupt family judge.

They were legally claiming that my violent outburst at the breakfast table was the result of a severe schizophrenic breakdown.
