Chapter 7 - The Billionaire's Fall

Flames engulfed the far side of the rooftop, casting a terrifying orange glow into the night sky.
Evelyn screamed Alexander's name, leaving the safety of the helicopter cabin.
She crawled on her hands and knees across the hot concrete, coughing on the thick black smoke.
When she reached the jagged edge of the roof, her heart completely stopped.
Alexander was dangling dangerously over the fifty-story drop, holding onto a broken metal pipe with one bloody hand.
"Alexander, give me your other hand!" Evelyn cried, reaching her arms down into the freezing wind.
"It is too heavy, Evelyn, take Noah and fly away!" he yelled back, his grip visibly slipping.
"I am not leaving my son's father behind!" she screamed, tears streaming down her soot-covered face.
She leaned her upper body entirely over the edge, grabbing onto his tailored jacket.
Alexander looked up at her, stunned by the incredible strength of the fragile maid.
With a primal scream, Evelyn pulled with every ounce of muscle she had left in her body.
Alexander kicked against the glass windows of the penthouse, propelling himself upward.
Together, they collapsed back onto the solid concrete roof, gasping for precious oxygen.
They did not have time to celebrate their miraculous survival.
The pilot yelled from the cockpit that the fuel tanks were going to blow in less than a minute.
Alexander grabbed Evelyn's hand, and they sprinted back to the waiting chopper.
They threw themselves into the back seats just as the aircraft lifted aggressively into the air.
A second massive explosion rocked the estate, sending a fireball high into the dark clouds.
Evelyn held Noah tightly, burying her face into Alexander's smoke-stained shirt.
For the first time in his life, the ruthless billionaire wrapped his arms protectively around them both.
"Where are we going?" Evelyn asked over the loud hum of the rotors.
"To a secure safe house off the grid," Alexander replied, his jaw set in cold determination.
"Isabella will not stop until she has the boy, and she has my mother's infinite resources behind her."
Evelyn pulled the stolen hospital bracelet from her pocket and placed it into his palm.
"She doesn't need to hunt us, Alexander," Evelyn whispered, pointing to a tiny blinking red light attached to the bracelet's clasp.
It was a military-grade micro-tracker, and it had been transmitting their exact location the entire time.

Suddenly, the pilot's radio crackled to life with a terrifying, robotic voice.
"Warning, incoming surface-to-air missile detected."
