Chapter 5 - The Ghost in the Shadows

Alexander dropped Victor to the floor like a heavy, lifeless sack of garbage.
The billionaire stumbled backward, his face entirely drained of its usual arrogant color.
"My wife died in a car crash three years ago," Alexander whispered, his voice trembling uncontrollably.
Victor coughed up a splatter of blood and laughed a cruel, ragged laugh.
"You are a genius in the boardroom, Mr. Sterling, but you are a fool at home," Victor sneered.
Alexander pulled a heavy steel phone from his pocket and dialed his private security team.
"Lock down the entire estate and throw this traitor into the basement vault," Alexander commanded into the phone.
Within seconds, three armed guards rushed into the room and dragged a laughing Victor away.
Alexander turned to Evelyn, his dark eyes filled with a terrifying mixture of rage and sorrow.
"Pack your things right now, we are leaving this house," he ordered her sharply.
Evelyn did not argue, quickly stuffing her few belongings into her duffel bag.
She reached under the bed and discreetly slipped the metal lockbox and the hospital bracelet into her pocket.
They sprinted up the back staircase to the nursery to get Noah.
The little boy was sitting up in his crib, clutching a stuffed bear and looking terrified.
Evelyn scooped him into her arms, and for the first time, Noah hugged her back tightly.
"We need to get to my private helicopter on the roof," Alexander said, leading the way.
They ran through the grand hallways, avoiding the main security cameras.
As they reached the final staircase to the roof, a figure stepped out from the shadows.
It was a stunningly beautiful woman wearing an elegant black silk dress.
Her face was perfectly flawless, except for a jagged white scar running down her left cheek.
Alexander froze on the top step, his gun dropping uselessly from his hand.
"Hello, darling husband," the woman said, her voice dripping with venomous sweetness.
Evelyn tightened her grip on Noah, sensing the absolute evil radiating from the stranger.
"Isabella," Alexander breathed out, looking at a ghost returned from the grave.
"I see you found the pathetic surrogate I hired five years ago," Isabella smirked, looking directly at Evelyn.
Evelyn felt the blood drain from her face as the ultimate deception finally clicked into place.
Noah was not Alexander's child with Isabella at all.

Isabella had used Evelyn as an incubator, and Alexander never knew the truth.
"Give me back my property, maid," Isabella ordered, pulling a golden revolver from her designer purse.
