Chapter 2 - The Billionaire's Ultimatum

Evelyn sat on the edge of the velvet couch in Alexander's massive penthouse office.
Her heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird.
Noah was fast asleep on her lap, his tiny fingers still gripping her apron tightly.
The heavy oak doors swung open, and Alexander walked in with a dark scowl on his handsome face.
He poured himself a glass of expensive whiskey before turning to glare at her.
"Who are you, and how much did my mother pay you to pull this stunt?" he demanded.
Evelyn blinked in shock, tears spilling over her eyelashes.
"I have no idea what you are talking about, Mr. Sterling," she whispered honestly.
"Do not play innocent with me," Alexander growled, stepping closer to the couch.
"Noah has not spoken a single word since he was brought to this house two years ago."
Evelyn looked down at the sleeping boy, feeling a strange, intense connection to him.
She had lost her own baby boy five years ago in a tragic hospital fire.
Holding Noah felt like holding a ghost from her broken past.
"He just looked sad, so I smiled at him," Evelyn explained softly.
Alexander studied her face, looking for any sign of deception in her bright green eyes.
He pulled out a thick legal document from his desk drawer and tossed it onto the coffee table.
"The press has already leaked the video of Noah calling you his mother," Alexander stated coldly.
"If I fire you, the company's stock will plummet due to the scandal."
Evelyn stared at the terrifying contract sitting in front of her.
"What do you want me to do?" she asked with trembling lips.
"You are going to sign that paper and pretend to be my devoted fiancée for the next six months," he commanded.
"I cannot marry a billionaire, I am just a maid!" she protested.
Alexander leaned down until his face was only inches from hers.
"You will do it, or I will make sure you never work in this city again," he threatened.
Evelyn reluctantly picked up the golden pen and flipped to the last page of the document.
As she signed her full legal name, Evelyn Marie Vance, Alexander suddenly froze.

His whiskey glass slipped from his hand and shattered on the expensive Persian rug.
"Where did you get that name?" Alexander asked, his voice shaking with sudden dread.
