Chapter 6 - The Roof of Fire

The wind howled across the rooftop helipad, tearing at Evelyn's cheap uniform.
Isabella stood between them and the waiting helicopter, aiming the golden gun directly at Noah.
"You faked your death and let me mourn you for three years!" Alexander yelled, stepping in front of Evelyn.
"I had to disappear, darling," Isabella laughed, the wind whipping her dark hair around her scarred face.
"Your mother discovered I was completely infertile, and she was going to cut me out of the will."
Isabella pointed the barrel of the gun at Evelyn's terrified face.
"So, I found a desperate college girl, paid a corrupt doctor to harvest your DNA, and faked a pregnancy."
Evelyn felt her knees buckle as the absolute horror of her past was fully revealed.
She had never been just a random victim of a terrible hospital fire.
She was targeted, used, and thrown away so this monster could secure a billionaire's fortune.
"You are a psychopath, Isabella," Alexander snarled, slowly reaching for his dropped weapon.
"Ah, ah, ah, leave the gun on the ground, Lex," Isabella warned, cocking the hammer of her revolver.
"I just came back to claim my inheritance and take the boy with me to Switzerland."
Noah buried his face into Evelyn's shoulder, crying silently in absolute fear.
"He is my son, and you will never touch him again," Evelyn declared, a sudden fierce fire igniting in her chest.
Isabella sneered and pulled the trigger without a single ounce of hesitation.
Alexander dove forward, throwing his entire body weight into his supposedly dead wife.
The gun fired wildly, the bullet ricocheting off the metal frame of the helicopter.
The pilot, panicked by the sudden gunfire, hit the throttle, causing the helicopter blades to spin dangerously fast.
Alexander and Isabella wrestled on the edge of the roof, completely surrounded by deafening noise.
"Get into the chopper now!" Alexander screamed to Evelyn over the roar of the engine.
Evelyn ran toward the open cabin door, shielding Noah with her own body.
She strapped the weeping boy into a leather seat and turned back to help Alexander.
Isabella kicked Alexander directly in the chest, sending him sliding toward the unrailed edge of the roof.
She raised her golden gun, aiming right between her husband's eyes.
Before she could fire, the helicopter's spinning tail rotor clipped a heavy fuel barrel on the roof.
A massive explosion ripped through the night sky, throwing everyone to the concrete.

When the smoke finally cleared, Evelyn looked over the edge of the roof in absolute horror.
Isabella was gone, but so was Alexander.
