Chapter 4 - The Mole

The fake Sarah suddenly lunged at me with a hidden blade, slashing a deep, agonizing gash across my left arm.
I forcefully kicked her backward into a stack of rusted shipping crates, clutching my bleeding wound.
Vance laughed hysterically from the floor, holding his shattered knee while more heavily armed mercenaries emerged from the shadows.
"You always were too sentimental, Marcus," Vance sneered, waving his men forward.
I realized I had walked directly into a massive, lethal trap, and my real wife was still missing.
I threw a concussive flashbang grenade into the center of the docks, temporarily blinding the approaching mercenaries.
I dove into the freezing, dark waters of the bay, swimming desperately underneath the wooden pier to escape the hail of bullets.
I dragged myself onto a muddy riverbank a mile away, shivering violently in the freezing rain.
I knew exactly who had set me up.
Only one person in the world knew about Maya's hacking skills and my reliance on the old shipyard.
It was Elias, my former black ops commander and the man who trained me.
I hotwired an abandoned sedan and drove aggressively toward Elias's heavily fortified estate on the outskirts of the city.
I infiltrated the mansion through a hidden service tunnel, bypassing the extensive laser security grid.
I found Elias sitting in his lavish study, calmly sipping a glass of expensive bourbon while reading a leather-bound book.
I aimed my suppressed pistol directly at the back of his head, cocking the hammer with a loud, metallic click.
"Where is my wife, Elias?" I demanded, my voice dripping with pure, unadulterated hatred.
Elias did not flinch, taking another slow sip of his drink before turning around in his velvet chair.
"You disappointed me, Marcus," Elias sighed, shaking his head in mock sadness.
"The Syndicate offered me fifty million dollars for the Genesis Drive, and you are standing in my way."
I stepped closer, pressing the barrel of my gun directly against his forehead.
"I am going to blow your brains out if you do not tell me where she is," I threatened.
Elias smiled coldly and pressed a small button hidden beneath his mahogany desk.
A massive flat-screen television on the wall flickered to life, showing a live video feed of my subterranean safehouse.
The heavily armed guards protecting Leo were all lying dead on the floor.

Elias looked at me with a victorious, evil grin.
"I do not have your wife, Marcus, but I certainly have your son."
