Chapter 10 - The Devastating Truth

Gabriel stood by the door, reloading his weapon with practiced efficiency.
The warehouse was completely secure, and Lorenzo's men were entirely wiped out.
Matilda kissed Lily’s forehead, tears of immense joy streaming down her cheeks.
“We are safe now, baby girl,” Matilda whispered soothingly.
Gabriel walked over and placed a gentle, reassuring hand on Matilda’s shoulder.
“I told you I would protect what is yours,” Gabriel said softly, looking at her with deep affection.
They had won the battle.
Gabriel had reclaimed a massive fortune hidden in the office safe, and they had a secure path out of the city.
He promised to buy them a massive estate where they would never be hurt again.
It felt like the perfect, victorious ending to a horrifying nightmare.
But Lily was shaking violently, refusing to look away from Gabriel’s face.
“Matilda, why is that man here?” Lily whispered, pointing a trembling finger at the mafia king.
Matilda smiled softly, trying to calm the frightened child.
“He is a good man, Lily, he saved our lives today,” Matilda explained.
Lily shook her head frantically, backing away into the corner of the office.
“No, he is not a good man!” Lily screamed hysterically.
Gabriel frowned, his expression turning to one of genuine confusion.
Matilda reached out to grab her sister’s hand, but Lily pulled away in absolute panic.
“He is the man from the alley, Matilda!” Lily cried, tears streaming down her pale face.
Matilda froze completely, a terrible, suffocating dread washing over her entire body.
“What alley, Lily?” Matilda asked, her voice dropping to a terrified whisper.
Lily pointed directly at Gabriel’s distinct, silver-ringed hand.

“He is the man who shot our father in the head five years ago!” Lily sobbed loudly.
Matilda slowly turned around to look at the man she had just saved, realizing he was the monster who had ruined her family in the first place.
