Chapter 7 - Sins of the Father

The backup emergency lights flickered on, casting an eerie red glow across the vault.
Elena stood frozen, the confession letter feeling like burning coal in her hands.
Alex stepped toward her, his fists clenched so tightly his knuckles were white.
“All this time, you played the innocent victim,” he snarled, backing her against the server rack.
“Alex, I swear I didn't know,” Elena pleaded, tears welling in her eyes.
He slammed his hand against the metal rack right next to her head.
“My father died in a suspicious plane crash the day before he was going to expose your family’s fraud.”
Elena shook her head desperately.
“This letter was planted by Julian to tear us apart!” she argued.
Alex let out a bitter, hollow laugh.
“You are just as manipulative as the rest of your bloodline.”
He snatched the letter from her trembling hands.
“I am going to destroy you, Elena, and I will burn this hotel to ashes with you inside it.”
He turned and stormed out of the vault, leaving her completely alone in the red darkness.
Elena sank to the floor, sobbing quietly as her entire world collapsed.
She knew she had to prove the letter was a forgery before Alex unleashed his wrath.
She managed to sneak out of the vault and bypassed security to reach the streets.
She pawned her diamond earrings at a shady midnight broker to get untraceable cash.
She took a cab to the darkest corner of the city to meet an underground forensic document expert.
The expert, a paranoid man named Silas, examined the letter under a heavy UV microscope.
Elena paced the small, dusty room, praying for a miracle.
Silas finally leaned back and adjusted his thick glasses.
“The handwriting is a perfect match to your father's old journals,” Silas confirmed.
Elena felt a crushing weight settle on her chest.
“So it’s real?” she whispered, devastated.
Silas held up a small chemical swab.
“The handwriting is authentic, but the ink hasn't fully oxidized yet.”

He looked her dead in the eye.
“This confession was written less than forty-eight hours ago.”
