Chapter 9 - The Burning Truth

My father sneered, reveling in his absolute power over the situation.
He began to monologue about how easy it had been to poison my mother.
He bragged about cutting the brake lines and manipulating Olivia's greedy nature.
He wanted me to know exactly how thoroughly he had defeated everyone before I died.
He did not realize that Liam had quietly slid his phone across the greasy floor during the chaos.
The phone was currently connected to the FBI's emergency broadcast channel, transmitting every single word.
Dozens of federal agents were already surrounding the perimeter of the auto shop.
Suddenly, the heavy bay doors in the back of the garage were violently breached by armored vehicles.
Bright tactical lights completely blinded my father, forcing him to drop his weapon in shock.
Federal agents swarmed the room, screaming commands and securing the perimeter.
My father desperately tried to grab his gun, but an agent tackled him flawlessly to the concrete.
They dragged him away in heavy iron handcuffs, completely ignoring his pathetic screams.
Paramedics rushed into the room to treat Olivia's bleeding shoulder wound.
I watched them place her on a stretcher, feeling absolutely nothing but cold indifference.
She reached out a trembling hand toward me, crying and begging for my forgiveness.
I simply turned my back on her and walked away.
Liam wrapped a warm blanket around my shivering shoulders and offered me a genuine smile.
He told me the FBI had successfully recovered my stolen backpack from the diner's basement.
