Chapter 7 - The Escape

My father screamed in agony as the strong chemicals burned his eyes.
He dropped the steel pipe and blindly clawed at his face.
Olivia shrieked in panic and desperately tried to help him wipe the bleach away.
I did not hesitate for a single second.
I squeezed my body through the narrow opening of the storm drain.
I dropped six feet down into the rushing, freezing water of the sewer system.
The smell was absolutely horrific, but I pushed through the pain in my casted leg.
I waded through the dark tunnel, using the concrete walls to keep my balance.
I could hear my father roaring in anger from the basement above me.
I knew the storm drains emptied out directly behind the local police precinct.
If the police chief was corrupt, I had to completely bypass the local authorities.
I needed to reach the regional FBI field office located three miles across town.
I trudged through the freezing water for what felt like endless, agonizing hours.
I finally reached a metal ladder leading up to a street-level manhole cover.
I pushed the heavy iron cover aside and crawled out onto the wet asphalt.
I was shivering violently, covered in filth, and completely exhausted.
A sleek black car suddenly pulled up to the curb right beside me.
The passenger door swung open, and Liam leaned out.
He had a bloody lip and a bruised eye, but he offered me a reassuring smile.
He explained that he had easily slipped his cheap handcuffs and escaped the police cruiser.
I climbed into the warm car, crying tears of sheer relief.
I told him that Olivia was actively working with my father.

Liam's expression darkened as he handed me a loaded spare magazine.
He said it was time to stop running and finally take the fight directly to them.
