Chapter 8 - The Breaking Point

The explosion violently shattered the electronic lock, blowing a massive hole in the steel door of the cage.

The concussive shockwave threw Sarah backward out of her armchair, sending her mug crashing to the floor.

Thick gray smoke filled the living room as Jason kicked the ruined steel door open.

His ears were bleeding from the blast, but his eyes were locked onto his ex-wife with murderous intent.

Sarah scrambled to her feet, sprinting desperately toward the back door of the cabin.

Jason was faster, lunging forward and grabbing a handful of her thick winter sweater.

He threw her roughly against the wooden wall, his hands immediately wrapping tightly around her throat.

"You ruined my entire life!" Jason screamed, his spit flying across her terrified face.

Sarah choked and gasped for air, her hands desperately clawing at his iron grip.

She managed to reach into her pocket and pull out a small canister of military-grade pepper spray.

She sprayed it directly into Jason's eyes at point-blank range.

He roared in sheer, blinding agony, dropping her to the floor as he clawed at his burning face.

Sarah did not hesitate for a second.

She threw open the back door and ran out into the ferocious, howling blizzard.

Jason stumbled blindly after her, guided only by the sound of her boots crunching in the deep snow.

The freezing wind bit into his skin, but his furious adrenaline masked the deadly cold.

He wiped his tearing eyes, finally catching a blurry glimpse of her running toward the tree line.

He tackled her brutally into a massive snowdrift, pinning her down in the freezing powder.

He pulled out the stolen handgun and pressed the cold barrel directly against her forehead.

"This ends right now," Jason whispered, completely out of breath.

He pulled the heavy trigger with absolute, remorseless conviction.
