Chapter 6 - The Border Crossing

A federal agent was standing on the porch, holding an assault rifle aimed directly at Jason's heart.

The agent had been tracking David's vehicle in connection to an unrelated vigilante investigation.

Jason raised his hands slowly, pretending to be deeply traumatized and terrified.

He used his incredible talent for lying, claiming that a madman had just taken him hostage inside the cabin.

The agent cautiously stepped inside to check the unconscious body lying on the floor.

The moment the agent looked down, Jason brought the heavy fireplace poker down on the back of his head.

The agent collapsed instantly, leaving Jason completely alone in the isolated woods.

He stripped the agent of his tactical jacket and took his emergency medical kit.

Jason jumped into David's rugged pickup truck and sped aggressively toward the northern border.

He knew that the main highway checkpoints would be completely swarming with police within hours.

He navigated through old, forgotten logging roads that wound dangerously through the freezing mountains.

The temperature dropped rapidly, turning the relentless rain into a blinding, ferocious blizzard.

Jason was shivering violently, but his pure hatred for Sarah kept his adrenaline pumping.

He finally reached an unguarded stretch of the Canadian border marked only by a rusted wire fence.

He rammed the heavy truck through the barrier, illegally crossing into foreign territory.

He used the GPS on the stolen phone to track the IP address Sarah had used for the video call.

It led him to an incredibly remote, snowy mountain town miles away from any major civilization.

He parked the truck in a dense thicket of pine trees and proceeded on foot through the knee-deep snow.

He could see the warm, inviting smoke rising from the chimney of Sarah's picturesque log cabin.

He pulled out the loaded handgun, completely prepared to end this nightmare once and for all.

He kicked the heavy wooden front door completely off its hinges and stormed into the living room.

He took exactly three aggressive steps before his boot pressed down on a hidden pressure plate under the rug.
