Chapter 7 - The Confession

Valerie stared up at Richard's towering, standing figure with absolute horror.

"You... you can walk," she stammered, her face draining of all color.

I pressed my knee firmly into her chest, making sure she couldn't reach for the dropped syringe.

"Why are you here, Valerie?" I demanded, my voice shaking with rage.

She burst into tears, her glamorous facade completely crumbling under the pressure.

"Miguel forced me to do it," she sobbed hysterically.

"He promised we would be rich, that Vitalis Health would be ours once Ethan took over."

She confessed that the entire affair with Miguel had been orchestrated by Ethan to manipulate my ex-husband into the corporate espionage plot.

"They needed someone ruthless to administer the final dose if the pills didn't work," Valerie cried.

Richard calmly picked up the syringe from the floor and placed it in an evidence bag he had hidden in his drawer.

"You are going to testify to everything you just said, Valerie," Richard commanded.

Suddenly, someone began pounding violently on the bedroom door.

"Valerie! Did you finish it?" Ethan's muffled voice yelled from the hallway.

He sounded frantic, clearly agitated that the deed was taking too long.

"Open the door right now, or I'm breaking it down!" Ethan roared.

I dragged Valerie up by her collar and shoved her into the adjoining bathroom, locking her inside.

Richard quickly threw himself back into the wheelchair, draping the blanket over his legs.

Before I could even reach for the doorknob, a massive crash shook the frame.

Ethan kicked the door open, splintering the wood, and stormed into the room with a wild look in his eyes.
