Chapter 6 - The Poison Plot

Clara stares at Vanessa in absolute disbelief.
She looks down and realizes Julian's dropped pistol is lying right next to her knee.
Vanessa had orchestrated the sniper shot and the timing perfectly to frame her for murder a second time.
"Grab her!" Vanessa orders the massive security guards.
Clara does not hesitate.
She grabs a heavy brass lamp from the desk and throws it directly into the chandelier.
The glass bulbs shatter, plunging the study into complete darkness.
Clara dives through the shattered balcony door just as the guards blindly open fire.
She lands hard on the wet grass of the estate grounds and rolls to her feet.
Sirens are already wailing in the distance.
Clara sprints toward the dense woods at the edge of the property.
Behind her, she hears the terrifying sound of attack dogs being released from their kennels.
The rain is pouring down, turning the ground into a slippery, muddy nightmare.
Clara pushes through the sharp thorns and branches, her lungs burning for air.
The vicious barking is getting closer by the second.
Suddenly, a pair of strong hands grabs her from the darkness and pulls her behind a massive oak tree.
It is Victor.
"Keep quiet," Victor whispers, holding his hand over her mouth.
He pulls out a strange ultrasonic device and presses a button, causing the dogs to whine and run in the opposite direction.
Victor guides her out of the woods and into a waiting vehicle hidden on a dirt road.
"Vanessa tried to kill Julian," Clara pants as they drive away into the night.
Victor does not look surprised at all.
"We need to strike back tonight before she finishes the job," Victor says calmly.
Clara nods, but as she reaches into the back seat for a towel, her hand brushes against something hard.

It is a large, black canvas bag.
The zipper is slightly open, revealing the barrel of a high-powered sniper rifle.
