Chapter 10 - The False Victory
Julian orders his arriving security teams to immediately drag Victor away to be handed over to the authorities.
He walks over to Clara and gently takes the handgun from her trembling fingers.
"It is over now," Julian says, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.
He walks to the panic room and carefully lifts the crying baby into his arms, holding him with what looks like pure love.
Vanessa runs into the ruined nursery a moment later, tears of joy streaming down her face.
She embraces Julian and the baby, completing the picture of a perfectly restored family.
Julian turns back to Clara with a warm, generous smile.
"You risked your life twice to protect my family, Clara," Julian announces loudly.
"I am promoting you to head of the household, and you will never have to worry about money again."
Clara lets out a massive sigh of relief, feeling completely vindicated and finally safe.
The horrible misunderstandings have been cleared up, and the true villain has been defeated.
She watches happily as Julian hands the baby over to Vanessa to soothe him.
Julian turns his back to the women and walks over to the shattered window to look out at his estate.
He pulls his cell phone from his pocket and types a quick, encrypted message.
"Victor is in custody, and Vanessa believes the act," Julian types with a cold, dead expression on his face.
He presses send, addressing the message to the highest-ranking hitman in the city's criminal underworld.

"Execute my wife and the maid tonight, and make it look like a tragic robbery," Julian mutters under his breath.
Julian turns back around, smiling warmly at Clara and Vanessa, knowing they will both be dead before sunrise.
