Chapter 4 - Return to the Estate

Clara drops the tablet onto the leather seat in pure horror.
"Julian wanted his own son dead?" Clara asks, feeling physically sick.
Victor takes a slow sip of his whiskey.
"My brother is bankrupt and desperate, Clara," Victor explains.
He tells her that the baby inherited a massive fortune from Julian's late first wife, a fortune Julian cannot touch unless the child dies.
"I need your help to expose them both," Victor says, looking directly into her eyes.
Clara nods slowly, realizing she is the only person left who truly cares about that innocent baby.
Victor tells her they need the original financial documents hidden in Julian's private study to prove the motive.
That night, Julian is hosting a massive masquerade charity gala at the Sterling estate.
Clara wears a uniform provided by Victor's catering contact and covers her face with a feathered mask.
She slips through the crowded ballroom, carrying a tray of champagne glasses.
Nobody recognizes the disgraced maid who was arrested just hours ago.
Clara sneaks up the grand staircase and picks the lock to Julian's private study.
The room is pitch black, illuminated only by the moonlight filtering through the curtains.
She finds the wall safe behind a large oil painting exactly where Victor said it would be.
Clara uses the electronic bypass tool Victor gave her, and the safe clicks open.
She reaches inside and pulls out a massive stack of life insurance policies.
They are all taken out on the baby, totaling over fifty million dollars.
Suddenly, the heavy oak doors of the study click shut.
The bright overhead chandelier violently switches on, blinding her.

Julian is standing by the door, holding a silenced pistol pointed directly at her chest.
"You should have stayed in jail, Clara," Julian whispers.
