Chapter 9 - The Aftermath

The drive back to Harrow Point was silent.
The storm had finally broken, leaving behind a cold, clear night.
Victor sat in the back of the armored SUV with Hannah and Poppy.
Poppy had fallen asleep, her head resting on Victor’s uninjured shoulder.
Hannah gently cleaned the graze on Victor’s arm with a medical kit from the vehicle.
“You saved our lives,” Hannah said softly.
“I am the reason you were in danger,” Victor replied, his voice filled with regret.
“Silas will never see the outside of a cell again.”
“And the Romano family will spend the next ten years recovering from what my men are doing to their operations tonight.”
The gates of Harrow Point opened, revealing a mansion buzzing with loyal guards.
Teddy stood on the front steps, directing the security overhaul.
Victor carried a sleeping Poppy up the stairs and laid her gently in her bed.
He pulled the heavy blankets over her small shoulders.
He walked back out to the hallway, where Hannah was waiting.
She looked exhausted, but there was a profound strength in her eyes.
Victor reached out and gently brushed a stray curl from her face.
“You are brave, Hannah,” he said quietly.
“Braver than most men in my world.”
“I had to protect my daughter,” she answered.
Victor took a step closer, the distance between them vanishing.
“You don’t have to run anymore.”
“I will protect you both.”
Hannah looked up into his eyes and nodded slowly.
For the first time in twelve years, Victor felt a sense of profound peace.
The empire was secure, the traitors were gone, and his family was safe.
