Chapter 8 - The Chaos

The sudden scream distracted Silas for a fraction of a second.

It was all the time Victor needed.

Victor struck Silas’s wrist, knocking the gun out of his brother's hand.

He delivered a brutal blow to Silas’s jaw, sending him crashing to the concrete.

Victor spun around to help Hannah.

Gregory was limping backward, pulling a secondary weapon from his ankle holster.

He aimed wildly at Hannah.

Victor threw his body in front of her just as Gregory pulled the trigger.

The bullet grazed Victor’s shoulder, tearing through his jacket.

Victor drew his pistol and fired a single shot.

The bullet struck Gregory squarely in the chest.

The treacherous estate manager collapsed permanently onto the cold floor.

Victor turned back to Silas, who was scrambling to reach his dropped weapon.

Victor kicked the gun away and pinned Silas to the ground with his boot.

“It’s over, Silas,” Victor breathed heavily.

Suddenly, the warehouse doors blew open with tremendous force.

Dozens of armed men poured into the building.

But they were not Romano soldiers.

They were Victor’s loyal men, led by Teddy, whose arm was heavily bandaged.

“Secure the perimeter!” Teddy barked.

Victor’s men quickly surrounded Silas, pulling him up and placing him in heavy iron restraints.

The threat was finally neutralized.

Victor lowered his weapon and turned to Hannah.

She was hugging Poppy tightly, tears streaming down her face.

Victor knelt beside them, ignoring the bleeding in his shoulder.

“Are you hurt?” Victor asked softly.

Hannah shook her head, burying her face against his chest.

“You kept your promise,” she whispered.

Victor wrapped his arms around both of them, shielding them from the cold.

“Let’s go home,” Victor said.

But as they walked out of the warehouse, a sniper laser briefly flickered across Victor’s back before vanishing into the night.
