Chapter 3 - The Ambush in the Dark

Victor did not drop his weapon.

Instead, he dove behind the reinforced steel engine block of the parked car.

Gunfire erupted instantly, shredding the space where he had just been standing.

Sparks flew as bullets ricocheted off the concrete and metal.

Victor counted the shots, waiting for the brief pause of a reload.

When the shooting momentarily stopped, he rolled out from his cover.

He fired three precise shots toward the catwalk.

A heavy body crashed to the ground floor with a sickening thud.

“Flank him!” one of the remaining gunmen shouted.

Victor knew he was outgunned and pinned down.

He needed a distraction.

He noticed a stack of wooden crates marked with flammable hazard symbols near the wall.

Victor aimed carefully and fired twice into the side of a rusted barrel next to the crates.

A thick stream of chemical solvent poured onto the floor.

He fired one last shot into the metal catwalk, creating a shower of sparks.

The sparks ignited the liquid instantly.

A massive wall of fire roared up toward the ceiling.

The flames blinded the Romano gunmen and filled the warehouse with thick smoke.

Victor used the chaos to sprint toward the rear exit.

He burst through the rusty metal door and out into the cold rain.

He ran to his SUV and threw it into reverse, peeling away from the burning building.

His phone buzzed on the dashboard.

It was Marcus calling from the estate.

“Victor, the transfer request came through,” Marcus said frantically.

“Do not sign anything,” Victor commanded.

“We have a bigger problem, boss.”

Marcus sounded genuinely terrified.

“Gregory just bypassed the secondary security firewall.”

“He is not hacking us from the outside.”

“The signal is bouncing from a router inside Harrow Point.”

Victor’s blood ran cold.

Gregory had an accomplice hidden inside the mansion.

And that person was in the house with Poppy.
