Chapter 6 - Ghosts of the Past

Victor stared at the screen in disbelief.

Silas was alive.

The funeral, the closed casket, the grief that had haunted Victor for over a decade.

It had all been a meticulously crafted lie.

Silas had faked his own death to ally with the Romano syndicate in secret.

The missing ledgers suddenly made perfect sense.

They didn't just contain shipping routes.

They contained the financial records proving Silas was funding the Romano expansion.

Hannah had been kidnapped because she dusted the safe and accidentally saw Silas's name.

Victor grabbed his keys and rushed out to the garage.

He chose the heavily armored black SUV with bulletproof glass.

He knew exactly where Silas would take them.

There was only one place Silas considered his true fortress.

The old abandoned shipyard on the edge of the city limits.

Victor drove through the storm, his mind cold and intensely focused.

He parked three blocks away from the rusted gates of the shipyard.

He moved through the shadows, avoiding the sweep of the guard tower spotlights.

He eliminated two perimeter guards silently, dragging their bodies into the tall grass.

He approached the massive main warehouse.

Through a broken window, he saw them.

Hannah was tied to a metal chair in the center of the room.

Poppy was sitting on the floor beside her, crying quietly.

Silas stood in front of them, holding a gun.

Marcus and Gregory were standing by the door, arguing over a briefcase.

Victor primed a flashbang grenade.

He knew he only had one chance to breach the room without getting the hostages killed.

He took a deep breath and pulled the pin.

May you like

He threw the grenade through the broken glass.

A blinding flash of white light and a deafening explosion ripped through the warehouse.
