Chapter 7 - The Underground Escape

I followed Clara into the freezing, damp tunnel with Emily clinging tightly to my back.
The revelation that Clara was my dead wife's sister echoed heavily in my injured mind.
I asked her why she had disguised herself as a homeless woman instead of just calling the police.
Clara explained that Victoria owned the local police chief and most of the municipal judges.
She had been living on the streets to secretly monitor the estate without triggering Victoria's vast surveillance network.
We walked in absolute silence for nearly a mile beneath the sprawling grounds of Greenwich.
The tunnel eventually ended at a rusted iron grate hidden deep inside the surrounding forest.
We pushed the grate open and climbed out into a torrential, freezing rainstorm.
I knew we could not stay in the area because Victoria's mercenaries would be tracking us with thermal drones.
We hiked through the thick mud until we reached a deserted highway rest stop miles away.
I used a stolen prepaid phone from the convenience store to check the national news headlines.
My heart sank into my stomach when I saw my own face broadcast on the television above the cash register.

Victoria had successfully framed me for the murder of Doctor Reynolds and the kidnapping of my own daughter.
Every single police officer in the country was now actively hunting me down.
