Chapter 2 - The Empty Grave

The winter wind suddenly felt like freezing daggers against my skin.

I demanded to know exactly what she meant about the casket being empty.

Victoria began to scream at the security guard to shoot the woman for threatening our family.

I violently pushed the guard's weapon down toward the concrete driveway.

I ordered him to open the iron gates and bring the stranger inside my house.

Victoria looked at me as if I had completely lost my mind.

She insisted that this filthy beggar was trying to extort us for our massive retail fortune.

I ignored my wife and gently scooped Emily up into my arms.

Emily buried her small face into my neck, holding tightly onto the burned blue rabbit she had taken from the woman.

We walked into the grand foyer of the estate, where Doctor Reynolds was waiting near the staircase.

The psychiatrist took one look at the homeless woman and his professional demeanor completely shattered.

His face turned a pale, sickly shade of white.

He quickly reached into his medical bag and pulled out a heavy syringe filled with a clear liquid.

He claimed the woman was clearly a dangerous schizophrenic who needed to be chemically restrained for our safety.

Before he could plunge the needle into her arm, the homeless woman grabbed his wrist with terrifying speed.

She twisted his arm backward until he dropped the syringe onto the marble floor.

She calmly looked at me and said that Doctor Reynolds was the man who started the fire.
