The ancient service elevator groaned loudly as it carried us up to the abandoned warehouse district.
Julian slumped against the metal wall, bleeding heavily from a graze wound on his shoulder.
He looked at me with a profound mixture of awe, fear, and absolute gratitude.
"You broke a neural command just to save my life," Julian whispered, clutching his sleeping son.
I nodded slowly, catching my breath as the adrenaline began to fade from my exhausted muscles.
