Chapter 5 - The Collision

The live feed on the burner phone became a blur of chaotic motion.

Three men dressed in tactical black swarmed out of the shadows.

Derek swung the crowbar, but the giant man with the cauliflower ears tackled him to the pavement.

Harper watched as they dragged Derek into a waiting van.

She collapsed onto the bed in sheer relief.

“Is she safe?” Harper asked, her voice trembling.

“My team is bringing your sister here,” Roman replied.

“She will be under my protection until the money is moved.”

He turned and walked out of the room, leaving the door open.

Harper sat in silence for twenty minutes.

The reality of her situation felt like a tightening noose.

She had traded a brutal boyfriend for a sophisticated warlord.

Footsteps echoed in the hallway.

Chloe rushed into the room, her hair disheveled and her eyes wide with terror.

“Harper!” she screamed.

The two sisters collided in a desperate embrace.

Harper held her tightly, tears streaming down her face.

“Are you hurt?” Harper asked, pulling back to inspect her.

“No, I’m fine,” Chloe stammered.

“These guys just kicked my door down and grabbed me.”

Chloe looked past Harper’s shoulder.

Roman was standing in the doorway, his hands resting in his pockets.

Chloe’s face drained of all color.

She stepped backward, her trembling hand covering her mouth.

“Chloe, it’s okay,” Harper tried to reassure her.

“He saved us from Derek.”

Chloe shook her head slowly, her eyes locked on Roman.

“Harper,” she whispered, her voice barely audible.

“You don’t know who this is, do you?”

Harper looked at Roman, confused.

“He’s a businessman,” Harper said defensively.

Chloe let out a sound that was half laugh, half sob.

“He is Roman Falco.”

“He runs the most violent crime syndicate on the East Coast.”

Roman offered a terrifyingly polite smile.

“Your sister is well-informed,” he said.
