Chapter 8 - The Interception

Evelyn grabbed her coat and rushed frantically out of the Blackwood Tower, her mind racing with sheer, unfiltered panic.

She attempted to call Lucas on their secure line, but the call went straight to a digitized, automated voicemail.

She aggressively stole a sleek black company car from the executive garage and sped wildly into the heavy evening traffic.

She navigated the rain-slicked city streets, breaking every conceivable traffic law to reach Lucas's hidden safe house on the outskirts of town.

As she pulled recklessly into the abandoned industrial park, she heard the distinct, terrifying sound of suppressed gunfire echoing off the concrete walls.

Three heavily armed mercenaries dressed in tactical gear had successfully cornered Lucas behind a heavily rusted shipping container.

Evelyn did not hesitate for a second; she slammed her foot aggressively on the accelerator and drove the heavy car directly toward the attackers.

The vehicle struck one of the mercenaries, sending him flying violently into a stack of wooden pallets in a massive shower of splinters.

Lucas immediately seized the distraction, firing back with his own weapon and sprinting desperately toward the passenger door of Evelyn's car.

He dove roughly into the leather seat, clutching his left shoulder where a dark crimson stain was rapidly spreading across his shirt.

Evelyn threw the car into reverse, spinning the steering wheel rapidly to execute a flawless, violent escape maneuver.

They sped away from the burning safe house, leaving the remaining mercenaries firing uselessly into the darkness behind them.

Lucas applied heavy pressure to his bleeding shoulder, thanking Evelyn quietly for saving his life by a mere fraction of a second.

They drove toward the city limits, desperately planning how they could expose the weapons smuggling ring before morning arrived.

Suddenly, the dashboard of the car flashed a harsh red warning light, and the engine completely cut off without warning.

The doors locked automatically with a heavy clank, and a digital message appeared on the center console that read: "Remote Override Activated by Julian Blackwood."
