Chapter 5 - The Lion's Den
The horrific realization that she had left her badge in Julian's closet sent a wave of absolute dread crashing through Evelyn.
Lucas aggressively struck the steering wheel in deep frustration, knowing their entire covert operation was now severely compromised.
They spent the entire night parked in a dark alley, analyzing their severely limited options and realizing that running away would only confirm her guilt.
Evelyn decided she must return to work the very next morning and face Julian directly, pretending absolutely nothing had happened.
She walked into the imposing Blackwood Tower at exactly eight o'clock, her posture perfect and her expression entirely unreadable.
She took her seat at the administrative desk, typing mundane reports as if she had not committed a major felony in the owner's penthouse hours prior.
At exactly noon, the intercom on her desk buzzed violently with Julian's cold, demanding voice.
He ordered her to come into his private executive office immediately, bypassing all standard protocols.
Evelyn walked slowly down the long glass corridor, fully preparing herself for a violent confrontation or an immediate, forceful arrest.
She entered the sprawling office and found Julian sitting perfectly still behind his massive mahogany desk, staring out at the hazy city skyline.
Without turning around to face her, Julian casually tossed a small plastic object onto the polished wood of his desk.
It was her missing identification badge, slightly bent at the corner and bearing her smiling photograph.
Julian slowly turned his leather chair around, his cold eyes locking onto hers with a predatory, terrifying intensity.
He asked her in a dangerously quiet voice to explain exactly why her security badge was found buried deep in his personal wardrobe.

Evelyn maintained absolute, unwavering eye contact, refusing to show a single ounce of fear or hesitation in front of the monster.
"I was there to drop off your freshly tailored suits from the dry cleaners, sir, just as you requested," Evelyn lied flawlessly.
