Chapter 9 - The Confession

I stared at my older brother in total disbelief, completely unable to process how he had found us.

David had been estranged from our family for over five years after a bitter dispute with Daniel over money.

"How did you know where to find me?" I asked, my voice trembling with a mixture of relief and confusion.

David kept his knife pressed firmly against the enforcer's neck while he pulled a zip-tie from his tactical vest.

"I have been tracking Daniel's offshore accounts for months because I knew he was laundering money," David explained quickly.

He secured the enforcer's wrists tightly behind her back and kicked her weapon far across the tarmac.

"When I saw a massive wire transfer pending for a life insurance payout today, I knew he had done something horrific," David added.

I hugged my brother tightly, burying my face in his tactical vest as the tears finally flowed freely.

Claire was still whimpering on the ground nearby, clutching her shattered knee in pure agony.

David walked over to our treacherous sister-in-law and grabbed her roughly by her designer collar.

"Where is my newborn nephew, Claire?" David demanded with a dangerously calm voice.

Claire spat a mouthful of blood onto the concrete and glared defiantly at my brother.

"You are way too late to save that little bastard," Claire snarled maliciously.

David did not hesitate to apply pressure directly to her broken knee with the heavy heel of his combat boot.

Claire shrieked in absolute agony, her defiant attitude instantly melting into desperate terror.

"Stop, please stop, I will tell you everything you want to know," Claire begged frantically.

I stepped forward, looking down at the woman who had helped destroy my entire life in a single day.

"Tell me exactly where Margaret took my baby," I commanded her with a voice of pure steel.

Claire took a ragged breath, tears of pain streaming down her heavily made-up face.

"Margaret did not trust Marcus to handle the actual delivery of the infant," Claire confessed weakly.

"She took the baby herself to the old Collins family estate on the cliffs overlooking the ocean," she revealed.

The cliffside estate was an abandoned property Daniel's family had owned for over three generations.

It was located fifty miles away, perched precariously on the edge of a sheer, jagged drop into the freezing water.

"Margaret is going to throw the baby into the ocean to make sure there is no physical evidence left for the police," Claire whispered.

My heart stopped beating for a terrifying second as the horrific reality of her words set in.

If there was no body, the insurance company would eventually pay out the massive policy to Daniel and Margaret.

"We have to go right now," I yelled at David, grabbing Noah's hand tightly.

David shoved Claire to the ground and sprinted toward a sleek black motorcycle hidden near the hangar doors.

He tossed me a spare helmet and instructed me to hold onto Noah as tightly as humanly possible.

We sped out of the private airfield, leaving the corrupt enforcers and my broken sister-in-law waiting for the authorities.

The wind roared in my ears as we raced toward the cliffs, praying to a God I barely believed in that we would not be too late.
