Chapter 3 - The Security Footage

The police officer immediately paused the security video to get a closer look.
"Are you absolutely sure that is your husband's accountant?" the officer asked me seriously.
I nodded my head, my hands shaking as I pointed at the frozen image on the screen.
"His name is Marcus, and he has handled Daniel's private business accounts for three years," I explained.
Daniel violently thrashed against his handcuffs, screaming that I was a crazy liar.
"She is just trying to frame my business partners," Daniel yelled at the police.
The officer ignored him and called for a citywide search for a man named Marcus with a neck tattoo.
I watched the rest of the video footage over the doctor's shoulder.
Marcus pushed the cart into the freight elevator, casually bypassing all the standard security checkpoints.
He was carrying a large black duffel bag that had not been on the cart previously.
My stomach churned as I realized my newborn son was zipped inside that bag.
But then the camera angle switched to the underground parking garage.
Marcus walked out of the elevator and handed the black duffel bag to a waiting woman.
The woman turned around to open the trunk of a silver luxury sedan.
It was Claire.
I turned around and stared at my sister-in-law, who was still pinned to the floor by security.
"You took him," I whispered, the rage burning in my throat like battery acid.
Claire simply smirked at me, showing absolutely no remorse for her actions.
"You really think you are smart enough to understand what is happening here?" Claire taunted me.
The police officer yanked Claire off the floor and read her the Miranda rights.
Margaret began laughing hysterically from the corner of the room.
"You can arrest all of us, but you are already way too late," Margaret cackled loudly.
The officer demanded to know where Marcus had taken the baby.
Margaret just smiled her terrifying, cold smile and refused to say another word.
I grabbed my cell phone from the bedside table, knowing the police would move too slowly for my liking.
I had secretly installed a location tracking application on Daniel's phone months ago when I suspected him of cheating.
I opened the application and searched for his current location history.
Daniel had not been at the office this morning like he had claimed.
His phone had pinged at a highly restricted private airfield just outside the city limits.

They were flying my baby out of the country.
Before I could show the police the tracking data, a loud gunshot echoed from the hospital lobby downstairs.
