Chapter 8 - The Hangar Fight

The elegant enforcer raised her silver handgun and fired three rapid shots at the forklift cabin.

The bullets sparked uselessly against the heavy steel cage protecting the mysterious masked driver.

I did not wait to find out whose side this dangerous new arrival was actually on.

I scrambled across the rough tarmac on my hands and knees, ignoring the sharp pain radiating from my ribs.

"Noah, run to me right now," I screamed over the deafening chaos of the airfield.

My brave little boy scrambled down the remaining metal stairs and sprinted directly into my open arms.

I pulled him tightly against my chest, shielding his small body with my own as I rolled us behind a fuel cart.

The men in black suits recovered their balance and drew their own heavy weapons from their shoulder holsters.

The masked driver did not hesitate to escalate the violence to a lethal level.

He threw the heavy forklift into drive and rammed it forcefully into the side of the silver luxury sedan.

The expensive car crumpled like cheap tin foil, trapping the enforcer against the boarding stairs of the jet.

One of the suited men fired a wild spray of bullets, shattering the glass windshield of the forklift.

The masked man ducked down, grabbed a heavy fire extinguisher from the cabin floor, and hurled it at the shooters.

The heavy red cylinder struck the first suited man squarely in the chest, knocking him completely unconscious.

The second man aimed his rifle carefully, preparing to shoot the masked driver through the broken windshield.

I realized I could not just hide and watch while this stranger fought a literal army for my son.

I grabbed the heavy metal wrench I had dropped earlier and crept up behind the second suited man.

I swung the wrench with absolutely everything I had left in my exhausted, battered body.

The metal connected solidly with the back of the man's knees, sending him crashing face-first onto the concrete.

The elegant enforcer finally managed to free herself from the pinned car, her face twisted in pure, murderous rage.

She aimed her pistol directly at my face, her finger slowly squeezing the delicate trigger.

Before she could fire, the masked man leaped from the forklift and tackled her violently to the ground.

He ripped the gun from her hands and pressed the sharp edge of his hunting knife against her throat.

"Tell your pilot to shut the engines down and walk away," the masked man growled dangerously.

The terrified enforcer nodded frantically, raising her hands in a gesture of total surrender.

I pulled Noah close to me, finally getting a clear look at our unexpected savior under the bright lights.

The man slowly reached up and pulled the thick black tactical mask off his face.

I gasped in absolute shock as I recognized the familiar, rugged features of my older brother, David.

"I told you I would always come back to protect you, Sarah," David said quietly.
