Chapter 10 - The Freedom

“Drop the weapon immediately!” the lead FBI agent roared, drawing his own sidearm.
My mother hesitated for a fraction of a second, her hands shaking with pure rage.
Two agents rushed forward and aggressively tackled her to the polished marble floor before she could pull the trigger.
The silver handgun clattered harmlessly away under a wooden pew.
Beth screamed in absolute terror as another agent slapped heavy steel handcuffs onto her wrists.
I stood completely still, watching the toxic women who had tortured me finally face justice.
They were dragged out of the beautiful church in chains, their fake, glamorous world completely destroyed.
Six months later, my life looked entirely different.
The federal courts completely cleared my name and restored my credit score to perfection.
My mother and sister were both sentenced to twenty years in a federal penitentiary without the possibility of parole.
I finally furnished my house in Monterey, filling the living room with beautiful art and a massive dining table.
I was sitting on my front porch, drinking a hot cup of coffee and listening to the peaceful ocean breeze.
I had finally secured the freedom and peace I had fought so fiercely to achieve.
My phone chimed with a delivery notification, and a courier truck pulled into my driveway.
The driver handed me a small, heavy wooden box bearing no return address or postage stamps.
I carefully opened the lid, expecting a gift from Jessica to celebrate our final legal victory.

Inside the box was my father's gold watch, completely covered in dried, dark blood.
A note resting underneath it simply read, “Your mother was only the middleman, and you still owe us.”
