Chapter 6 - The Free Fall

The armored SUV smashed through the heavy concrete barricade like it was made of paper.
For a terrifying second, we were completely weightless in the cold air above the dark, churning water.
The vehicle slammed nose-first into the freezing river with a violently bone-crushing impact.
Cold water instantly began pouring in through the shattered windshield.
The heavy armor plating of the SUV caused it to sink rapidly into the murky depths.
I struggled to unbuckle my seatbelt, but the impact had jammed the release mechanism.
Emma unhooked herself and desperately crawled over the center console toward me.
She found a heavy emergency flashlight and smashed it against the side window until the glass entirely spider-webbed.
With one final, desperate kick, she completely shattered the window.
The river water rushed in forcefully, submerging us both in absolute, freezing darkness.
Emma grabbed the collar of my jacket and pulled me free from the tangled seatbelt.
She swam upward, dragging my paralyzed body toward the faint moonlight above the surface.
We broke the surface gasping for air, choking on the polluted, freezing water.
I clung to a floating piece of debris while Emma helped drag me toward the muddy riverbank.
We collapsed in the thick mud, freezing, exhausted, and barely alive.
I realized in that moment that this maid had just risked her own life twice to save a paralyzed mob boss.
I promised her that I would make Luke pay for every single thing he had done tonight.
Emma nodded, shivering uncontrollably as I pulled out my waterproof emergency tracker.
I activated the distress beacon to summon the last few men in the city I truly trusted.
Suddenly, Emma's burner phone, which had somehow survived in her waterproof pocket, rang loudly.
May you like
She answered it on speakerphone, and Marcus's cruel laughter filled the quiet riverbank.
He thanked Emma for her service and revealed that he had intercepted the transport carrying her mother.
