Chapter 9 - The Roof Standoff

Time completely slowed down as my mother aggressively charged toward me with the silver blade gleaming brightly in the landing lights.
I did not retreat or cower away from the woman who had spent my entire life making me feel completely worthless.
Adrenaline completely masked my severe physical pain as I handed Lily quickly to Nurse Mara and stepped boldly forward.
I caught my mother's wrist in mid-air, using both of my hands to physically stop the deadly blade inches from my own throat.
My mother possessed the desperate, manic strength of a cornered animal, deeply pushing the sharp knife closer to my skin.
"You have always been completely useless, Trisha," she spat venomously directly into my face while struggling against my grip.
I stared directly into her cold, empty eyes and finally realized I felt absolutely nothing but pure pity for this pathetic monster.
I violently twisted her wrist sideways, forcing her to drop the sharp weapon onto the hard concrete of the hospital roof.
Before she could possibly recover, I forcefully shoved her backward with every single ounce of strength left in my battered body.
My mother stumbled clumsily backward, her expensive heels catching dangerously on the raised edge of the concrete helipad platform.
She screamed wildly as she lost her balance completely and tumbled backward over the short safety wall of the towering building.
I instinctively lunged forward and grabbed her arm, completely stopping her deadly fall just inches over the terrifying, hundred-story drop.
My mother dangled helplessly over the dark edge of the massive skyscraper, screaming and sobbing hysterically for me to save her life.
My father dropped his weapon and fell to his knees in absolute shock, completely paralyzed by the horrifying sight of his wife hanging over the abyss.
"Pull me up, Trisha, please pull me up," my mother begged desperately, her previous arrogance completely erased by the raw fear of death.
I held her arm tightly, feeling the immense physical strain completely tearing the fresh surgical stitches in my stomach wide open.
I looked back at Mara, who was gently holding my beautiful, safe daughter in the harsh landing lights of the ruined helicopter.
I knew that if I let my mother fall, I would completely become the exact same kind of monster she had always been.
Malcolm rushed forward and grabbed her other arm, helping me physically haul my hysterical mother back onto the solid safety of the roof.
She collapsed onto the concrete, weeping pathetically and shaking uncontrollably as the distant sound of real police sirens finally approached the hospital.

I looked down at the pathetic woman who had given birth to me and whispered the absolute final words I would ever say to her.
"You are completely dead to me," I said coldly before turning my back on her forever.
