Chapter 6 - The Basement Descent

My mother stood victoriously over me, flanked entirely by the two corrupt police officers holding loaded weapons.
She reached her manicured hands out toward my trembling body, fully intending to rip my newborn daughter directly from my arms.
"Hand her over, Trisha, and I promise I will let you walk out of this hospital alive," my mother lied smoothly.
I clutched Lily so tightly to my chest that the baby finally woke up and began to cry loudly into the silent lobby.
Malcolm slowly pushed himself up off the cold tile floor, completely ignoring the guns pointed directly at his chest.
"If you shoot us here, you will never see a single penny of the trust fund," Malcolm stated with absolute confidence.
My mother paused her advance, her greedy eyes narrowing sharply as she quickly processed his bold statement.
Malcolm revealed that he had secretly transferred the entire billion-dollar trust into a locked federal escrow account during the initial lockdown.
He boldly claimed that the money could only be legally released with his personal biometric fingerprint and vocal authorization.
My mother's face twisted into an ugly mask of pure rage as she realized Malcolm had completely outplayed her financial strategy.
She immediately ordered the corrupt cops to lower their weapons and take us all as living hostages to the basement garage.
The officers roughly shoved us toward the emergency stairwell, forcing me to walk down three flights of concrete stairs.
Every single step sent a blinding flash of white-hot agony radiating directly through my entire lower abdomen.
I could feel warm blood actively running down my legs, completely soaking my hospital gown in a sticky, terrifying mess.
We finally burst through the heavy basement doors and stepped out into the freezing, dimly lit underground parking garage.
A massive black van was idling aggressively near the exit ramp, completely surrounded by four of my father's armed mercenaries.
My father was casually leaning against the hood of the van, smoking an expensive cigar as if this were a normal Tuesday evening.
He threw the cigar onto the concrete floor and crushed it beneath his expensive leather shoe when he saw us approaching.
"I see you finally decided to cooperate with the family business," my father sneered while opening the heavy side door of the van.
He demanded that Malcolm unlock the federal escrow account immediately, or he would personally shoot Mara in the head.
Malcolm slowly raised his hands and asked to use the digital tablet resting safely on the hood of the van to authorize the massive transfer.

My father nodded arrogantly and gestured for his armed men to step back and give the hospital executive some room.
Malcolm picked up the heavy tablet, looked directly into my terrified eyes, and suddenly smashed the electronic device directly into my father's face.
